# Custom Domain
> Connects a vanity domain to the author's CabinsPress site instead of using the `cabinspress.com/authors/jane-doe` URL.
## Who this is for
Authors with their own purchased domain (e.g., `janedoeauthor.com`).
## Overview
Connects a vanity domain to the author's CabinsPress site instead of using the `cabinspress.com/authors/jane-doe` URL.
## How it works
1. Author enters their domain in the Custom Domain tab
2. CabinsPress shows the exact DNS records to add at the domain registrar
3. Author copies those records to their registrar (Cloudflare, Namecheap, GoDaddy, etc.)
4. CabinsPress verifies the records and **automatically provisions a security certificate**
5. The entire author site (homepage, books, blog, shop, ARC pages, signup forms, account pages) is served from the custom domain
6. The old `/authors/{slug}` URLs redirect to the equivalent custom domain URL
## Common questions
* DNS propagation can take minutes to hours; verification is automatic and retries
* Authors can change or remove a custom domain later
* This process can take 5-30 min normally, but there can also be delays due to network issues with the DNS. if you website is not live within 30min email, [support@cabinspress.com](mailto:support@cabinspress.com) to get this resolved.
* Sometimes the CAA field will be entered as separate fields. If this is the case see the example below. 0 should be set on the flag. Tag should set to issue. Domain should set to [letsencrypt.org](http://letsencrypt.org).
