# Multi-Step Checkout

## Overview

A three-step (or two-step for digital-only) flow optimized for book sales.

### Steps

### Step 1 — Information

* Name and email
* Either continue as guest (physical orders only) or sign in / create an account
* For digital products, **sign-in is required** (so digital downloads attach to a buyer account)
* Signed-in buyers get email and saved addresses prefilled from their account
* "Edit contact" option to override prefills

### Step 2 — Shipping (physical orders only; skipped for digital-only)

* Shipping address with **Google Places autocomplete**
* Real-time shipping rate options as cards (carrier, service, price)
* Includes **USPS Media Mail** rate when eligible (book-only orders shipped within the US)
* Selected rate is locked in and capped at checkout for the author when buying the label later

### Step 3 — Payment

* Card payment via Stripe
* Automatic tax calculation when enabled
* Final review of order

### Age verification gate

* Triggered when the cart contains content rated T, M, or A and the signed-in buyer has not yet declared their age
* Modal collects birth year; under-13 requires parent email
* Once verified, the gate doesn't reappear

### Ebook info interstitial

* When the cart contains an ebook or audiobook, an optional interstitial explains the Camp Fire e-reader before proceeding
* Helps reduce "what do I do with this EPUB file?" support questions
* Buyer can skip directly to checkout

**Discount codes** apply at any step in the cart or checkout.

### On payment success

* Buyer redirected to the **Order Confirmation** page
* Cart cookie cleared
* Saved addresses pushed back to the buyer's account for next time
