# What is Cabins Press?

> Cabins Press help article.

Cabins Press is a publishing platform for independent authors and the readers who follow them. Here, authors can do everything they need to create and publish a book, from the editor to e-commerce and ARC campaigns.

The general sentiment among authors is that they want to write, and not have to manage 10 platforms and do book marketing on top of that. So we consolidated the services authors need, and made Cabins Press a simple, intuitive platform that has just the right amount of everything. And most importantly, with Cabins Press, you don't need to fear that your book will be gobbled by AI. Cabins Press's philosophy: **no AI. Ever.** This is a clean space to write your books and keep them yours.

As mentioned earlier, Cabins Press is a platform for both authors and readers. Authors run their business in the Author App, managing their writing, email, shop, and site settings in one workspace. Readers meet authors on the Author Site (shop, blog, ARC signup) and in CampFire, the free mobile e-reader app.

It's important to mention (just so we're on the same page) that Cabins Press splits into four surfaces to accommodate different needs for different types of users.

| Surface | Who uses it | What it is |
| --------------- | ------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Author App** | Authors, editors, assistants, co-authors | The web/desktop application where authors write, manage readers, run email campaigns, configure their site, and operate their business. Available in browser and as a native Electron desktop app. |
| **Author Site** | The author's readers and fans | The public website readers see — homepage, book pages, blog, shop, ARC signups, link-in-bio. Hosted on a `cabinspress.com` slug or the author's own domain. |
| **Camp Fire** | Readers (buyers, ARC readers, free readers) | The free e-reader app for iOS and Android. Reads purchased Cabins Press ebooks, ARC copies, personal EPUBs, author WIP previews, and free Project Gutenberg classics. |

The way we see Cabins Press is that it has five primary user personas, each with their own important role:

* **Author** — runs a publishing business on Cabins Press
* **Editor / Beta Reader** — invited collaborator with editing or admin permissions
* **Buyer** — a reader who has purchased from the author's shop
* **ARC reader** — a reader given early access to a book before publication
* **Reader** — anyone on an author's mailing list, audience, ARC team, or shop, a Camp Fire user
