# Visual Email Template Designer

A full-screen WYSIWYG email builder — no HTML required.

## How it works

### Editor blocks (current generation)

* Paragraphs and headings
* Bold, italic, underlined text
* Bulleted and numbered lists
* Block quotes
* Text alignment
* Inline links
* **Images** (from the Media Library)
* **Email Button** — clickable CTA with customizable label, URL, color, padding
* **Email Divider** — horizontal rule
* **Raw HTML embed** — for advanced users who want to paste a snippet

### Theme controls (Theme panel)

* Backdrop, canvas, text, and button colors (hex pickers)
* Font family: Georgia, Arial, Helvetica, Trebuchet, Verdana, Courier
* Border radius slider for buttons and cards

### Preview modes

* **Desktop preview** at 600px width
* **Mobile preview** at 375px width
* HTML source view

### Personalization (merge variables)

* `{{first_name}}` — recipient first name
* `{{last_name}}` — recipient last name
* `{{email}}` — recipient email
* `{{book_title}}` — book the enrollment is tied to (only if enrollment has a book)
* `{{book_genres}}` — book genres list
* `{{book_tropes}}` — book tropes list
* `{{book_target_publishing_date}}` — release date
* `{{book_arc_download_url}}` — personalized ARC download link (only valid for ARC readers)
* `{{book_arc_download_expires_at}}` — when the ARC link expires
* Each variable also works in nested form: `{{license.firstName}}`, `{{book.title}}`, etc.

**Sample reader/book picker** in the preview substitutes real values so the author can see how the email actually looks.

**Send test:** Toolbar button sends the current draft (including unsaved edits) to the signed-in author's account email via platform SMTP. Subject is prefixed with `[TEST]`. When preview book/reader selections are set, merge variables are rendered with those sample values. Rate-limited to one send per minute per author.

**Pre-built starter templates** available from the toolbar as starting points.

### Not available today

* "Send test to myself" button
* Custom field merge variables (custom field answers aren't injected into emails yet)
* Conditional content blocks (`{% if %}` works in raw HTML but no UI)
* Dark mode preview
